Just Friends

I thought of it yesterday after the night had passed,
Of that day I stared at you all through class.
My throat is dry from calling out your name,
And I'm trying to tell myself to stop playing this silly game.

I remember the season when we met so clearly,
You had a certain grace when you smiled so dearly.
I'm struggling, but I know that it's for you to be around,
The volume of your laugh still reaches above the ground.

Why can I not tell you "I love you"?
Is it because I'm afraid of your adieu?
Well I don't want to be just friends,
I want our relationship to extend.

I am on cloud nine when I see your smile,
Can it not stay like this for awhile?
Because I'm too scared you tell you these words,
I'm afraid you're going to say it's too absurd.

But I don't want to be "just friends,"
I want to tell you before this fantasy ends.
